Where the Unlikely Thrive: My First Week at OsmSec

Wait! I Forgot to Mention What I Actually do at OsmSec

So… funny story.

In all the excitement over pixelated flags, CTF acronyms, and trying not to break anything on Day One, I completely forgot to introduce myself.

Hi. I’m Eekshitha, a Business Support Executive at OsmSec.

(There. Now we’re off to a proper start.)

Now, you might be wondering: “Wait, weren’t you just losing your mind over hacking jargon?”

Absolutely.

And here’s the twist! I’m not a cybersecurity expert. I didn’t grow up tinkering with code or dreaming in binary. I didn’t study computer science, engineering, or even anything remotely tech-related.

I studied literature.

Yes, really. Books. Words. Long essays. Shakespearean tragedies.

How Did I End Up Here?

Simple.

Because OsmSec doesn’t hire paper. It hires people.

People who are curious. People who ask questions. Who learn fast, adapt faster, and aren’t afraid to stumble through the unfamiliar, like CTF challenges and Slack memes about buffer overflows.

This place was founded by someone who dropped out of collage not because they couldn’t keep up, but because they were more interested in building than sitting in a lecture hall.

That mindset is everywhere here.

Degrees? Nice to have.

Potential? Non-negotiable.

What I Actually Do

As a Business Support Executive, I’m the bridge between chaos and clarity.

I make sure our internal operations don’t collapse. I keep processes running, coordinate with teams from marketing to partnerships, and help translate ambitious ideas into actual execution.

It’s less about knowing how to “hack” and more about understanding how things (and people) work and then supporting them the best way I can.

And every day, I learn more about the world I’ve stepped into.

The Power of the Unlikely Fit

I never imagined I’d work at a cybersecurity company.

But OsmSec didn’t care what I majored in. They cared whether I could think, adapt, organize, and contribute.

So here I am literature grad, hoodie on, still mildly confused by half the memes, but picking up something new every day.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re “not technical enough” to belong in tech hear this:

At OsmSec, curiosity matters more than credentials.

You don’t need to fit a mold. You just need to show up with questions and the hunger to grow.

And honestly? That’s more than enough to start.
